Sharp Grammar Editing

My name is Britta Franceschi, and I am a literary editor. My specialty is line editing, but I am also a copyeditor, writer, and book reviewer.

My Editing Style

How I Work With You

As an editor, my favorite thing is to help you make your writing the best it can be. I help you refine your voice, and edit your manuscript to provide you with suggestions and options. As a writer, you know what you’re trying to say, so what I do is provide a fresh set of eyes for your manuscript and catch discrepancies and errors that you miss.
As a writer, I understand the hesitation you may have in handing over your creation to a stranger. What I can promise you is that I’m not going to steal your work, and I am not here to tear it to shreds. (I'm also NOT going to run it through AI.)
I’m your teammate and cheerleader—I will be the first one to congratulate you on the success of your writing. I, too, have projects that mean everything to me, but I also know that I want to publish the best possible version of my writing, and an editor is integral to the process. Even as a working editor, I hire another editor for my own writing.
My rates are on the lower side, but still in line industry standards, and I recommend you check out the EFA’s rate chart to familiarize yourself with what editorial services cost.
I work with each client individually, so we can create a payment plan that works for you, if you need one.
I look forward to being a part of your publishing journey!

Thoughtful and Meticulous Editing

Line Editing

Line editing is the process of reading a manuscript line by line and paragraph by paragraph. It ensures that the language flows, has continuity, and actually says what the author means.

Copy Editing

Copy editing is the process of reading a manuscript for grammatical errors, errant punctuation, incorrect facts, congruent style, and clear readability.

Manuscript Evaluation

I will read your manuscript and give you detailed feedback and comments on its strengths and weaknesses. Specific aspects addressed include plot, characterization, pacing, structure, and mechanics.

Sample Edit

When you send me your manuscript, I will provide a sample* edit. If you like my style, we'll sign a contract describing the work, timeline, and pricing. In order to begin the edit, I require a deposit; to release the final edited document, I require payment in full.
I can work out a payment plan with you, if you need.

*For documents under 30K words, sample edits will be limited to a paragraph or two dependent upon word count.

A Note on the Use of Artificial Intelligence

As a professional editor, I can assure you that I edit with no AI technology other than spellcheck and macros in Microsoft Word.
That being said, I will not work on projects that have been written, either wholly or in part, by generative AI. If you have used AI to write, you will have to find another editor.

Editing is Collaboration

Editors and writers are teammates in the writing process. My edits are always suggestions, and I work with you to produce the best version of your work. Together, we make your writing exactly what you imagined it would be.

The Editing Process

Editing is generally thought of as fixing grammar and the technicalities of language, but there is so much more to it! Each step of the process focuses on a different aspect of the manuscript.
