About Me
Get to Know Me
I am a line and copy editor, proofreader, writer, and book reviewer. I have a B.A. in English from the University of Utah, a TESOL certification from Kennesaw State University, and editing certificates from the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. My teaching background includes reading comprehension, literature, creative and essay writing, grammar, and English as a Second Language. Genres I have edited include crime and detective fiction, romance, fantasy, and memoir. I have also edited academic writing in the humanities and business. Reading has always been my favorite hobby, and I read widely across genres of both fiction and nonfiction.
I love classic literature, and it's what I read most often. My favorite novels are Middlemarch, Jane Eyre, and Mansfield Park. Some of my favorite writers are Henry James, George Eliot, Edith Wharton, Alexandre Dumas, and the Brontë sisters. In my more modern reading adventures, I have thoroughly enjoyed The English Patient, Saving Fish from Drowning, the Harry Potter series and the Tales of the Otori series.
I am an avid fan of narrative history, and Dan Jones is my favorite historian. I have recently read Powers and Thrones, The Plantagenets, The Templars, and In the Reign of King John by him. Professor Sue Black's All That Remains is another stellar piece of nonfiction, as is Dr. Lindsey Fitzharris' The Butchering Art. I want to read her latest book, The Facemaker, but I haven't had the time yet.
I love short stories, particularly of the gothic, horror, or weird variety, and my favorites are Ambrose Bierce, Margaret Oliphant, Edgar Allan Poe, Edith Wharton, M R James, and Elizabeth Gaskell. Jack London's "To Build a Fire" is also exceptional.
In my spare time, I enjoy travel, photography, knitting, and writing. I am currently working on two novels of my own as well as writing essays and blog posts.
