B. Franceschi
Editor & Writer
Bio
Welcome! My name is Britta Franceschi, and I am a stylistic editor. My specialty is a combination of line and copy editing, but I am also a writer and proofreader. I’m glad you’re here!
As an editor, my favorite thing is to help you make your writing the best it can be. I help you refine your voice, and edit your manuscript to provide you with suggestions and options. As a writer, you know what you’re trying to say, so what I do is provide a fresh set of eyes for your manuscript and catch discrepancies and errors that you miss.
As a writer, I understand the hesitation you may have in handing over your creation to a stranger. What I can promise you is that I’m not going to steal your work, and I am not here to tear it to shreds. I’m your teammate and cheerleader—I will be the first one to congratulate you on the success of your writing. I, too, have projects that mean everything to me, but I also know that I want to publish the best possible version of my writing, and an editor is integral to the process. Even as a working editor, I hire another editor for my own writing.
My rates are in line with industry standards, and I recommend you check out the EFA’s rate chart to familiarize yourself with what editorial services cost. I work with each client individually, and we can create a payment plan that works for you, if you need one.
I look forward to working with you on your road to publishing!

A Note on the Use of Artificial Intelligence
As a professional editor, I can assure you that I edit with no AI technology other than spellcheck and macros in Microsoft Word.
That being said, I will not work on projects that have been written, either wholly or in part, by generative AI. If you have used AI to write, you will have to find another editor.
Services
Not sure what kind of editing you need? Read my guide to the different types of editing and what to look for in a good editor.
Line Editing
Line editing is the process of reading a manuscript line by line and paragraph by paragraph. It ensures that the language flows, has continuity, and actually says what the author means.
This is done after a few drafts and developmental editing.
Copy Editing
Copy editing is the process of reading a manuscript for grammatical errors, errant punctuation, incorrect facts, congruent style, and clear readability.
This comes after or can be combined with line editing.
Writing
My writing services include articles, blog posts, book reviews, short stories, author profiles, &c.
Please contact me for rates.
When you send me your manuscript, I will provide a sample edit. If you like my style, we'll sign a contract describing the work and the timeline. In order to begin, I require a deposit; to release the final edit, I require payment in full. I can work out a payment plan with you, if you need.
Testimonials
When I first worked with Britta, I had high hopes; but they didn’t compare to what actually happened. I presented the first chapter of an ongoing novel, and the advice and tutelage that I received in just the first session completely transformed my work. Together, we identified my creative writing weaknesses, and set me up with the tools for success; which I still use today. She is a patient teacher, and she’s dedicated to her craft. I couldn’t recommend her enough.
S. Bueckert,
WRITER
I had finished my unpublished manuscript of Memoirs of an American Prima Donna, a reprint of a book from 1913, but was uneasy about using an editor. I wanted to make sure the person I chose wouldn’t edit out the original author’s charming style, which would be considered ‘old fashioned’ in the 21st century. I was concerned needlessly because Ms. Franceschi’s magic managed to keep the original charm of the book while still making it very accessible for today’s audience. She was wonderful, very professional and got my book back to me in a timely manner. Any questions I had were answered promptly, which I greatly appreciated. I highly recommend her.
D.D. Bartholomew,
WRITER
As an author working on a novel, I was very concerned about handing off my precious work to an editor. My biggest concern was that the editor would try to alter my voice, that the unique phrasing and quirks that comprise so much of my writing would be erased or altered to the point that I would not recognize my own work. With all this trepidation I approached Britta and asked her to look at my book. I was delighted to find a collaborative, insightful partner who worked hard to communicate and ensure that I felt my work was valuable and worthwhile. She made changes, she corrected issues I knew were there but also went about making the novel 100% ready to be published, a process that I still don’t fully understand. When she was done I felt like the novel I had been slowly constructing was complete. It felt ready to be sent out into the world which was a truly magical experience. I would recommend Britta to anyone trying in need of an editor. Her attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and excellent communication all made me grateful and comfortable as I went to the next step of my writing journey.
